I’ve been getting a lot of new followers on all my channels lately, and I think it’s about time that I tell you a little bit more about myself. I want you to get to know me, to know who the heck you’re following. So, here it comes, the big post about me!

So who am I?

My name is Hanna, I’m 29 years old, and I’m born on a cold November morning in the little town of Jakobstad. Swedish is my native language, but I also speak Finnish and English fluently.

Learning Finnish as a Swedish speaking Finn in Ostrobothnia can be a bit hard, as pretty much “everyone” speaks Swedish here. But I learned Finnish at a young age thanks to my parents having a lot of Finnish speaking friends, us always having Finnish radio- and tv-channels on etc..

My third language, English, has thankfully also come to me very naturally. I was from a young age convinced that I’d live in an English speaking country someday, and therefore I made it my mission to learn English fluently. Said and done, at 12-years old I started reading books in English and that’s the way it’s been ever since. I love the fact that I can actually say that I’m trilingual, I see it as a wealth to be able to speak several languages.

So why the heck am I writing in English, even though my native language is Swedish?

Well, when I started my first blog in 2007/2008, I wrote in Swedish, and did so for quite many years. But then, somewhere along the line, I decided that I wanted to write in English instead, in order to become better at it. One of my biggest dreams has always been to publish a book in English, and well, to write a book in English you need to be good at writing in English… Hence my “writing in English” here on the blog.

I’ve thought of switching back to writing in Swedish many, many times. But somehow writing in English has also been like a “shield” for me, I feel like I’m a different person when I write in English – like I’m somehow protected. Like I’m protecting “the real me”. Shortly said, I think I’ve developed a second persona through my blog and social medie, and now have two “me’s” – the Swedish Hanna and the English Hanna. Does that make any sense? I feel like I can be more “me” when I write in English. I feel freer when I write in English. And that’s also why I’ve decided to keep writing in English, forever and ever.

So, what do I like to do, which are my interests?

OK let’s take a step back from the “deep” stuff, and turn to something lighter, like what I like to do and what my interests are.

I’ve always been somehow obsessed with my health, and I absolutely crave healthy foods and working out on a regular basis. Several allergies and stomach problems have forced me to eat gluten-free and lactose-free foods, and I also try to eat as vegan as possible (I’d say I’m a 100% pescetarian, and 90% vegan). Workouts I like to do are walking & powerwalks as often as possible, running (more so in the Summer months), Les Mills workouts at the gym (my faves are Bodycombat & Bodyattack), “traditional” gym training, SUP: boarding in the Summer, snowmobile driving in the Winter and badminton once a week all year round.

Books have always been a huge interest of mine, and as a kid, I used to read one book a day (I was in 2 different book clubs from which I received new books every month and was also an active visitor at the local libraries. PLUS, I used to read my moms Danielle Steele books, lol). Sadly I don’t read quite that often any longer, but I do read as often as I have time for it, more so on flights and at the beach in the Summer.

Like pretty much everyone else (?), I’m also obsessed with Netflix and watch a lot of shows on a daily basis. Movies from time to time, but I actually prefer series these days.

“Anything visual”, computers and the internet

One of my biggest interests has always been “anything visual”. I’m one of those who always sees beauty everywhere… The artsy kind! I’ve always loved snapping photos, and when I was in high school I spent MANY hours in front of the computer being creative in Paint, Paintshop, and later Photoshop (I’m a self-taught Photoshop pro). When blogging came around, I of course jumped on that train (read more about my history as a blogger in this post), and when Instagram came around – well I obviously jumped on that train as well (been on it since 2011). As did I on several other creative social media platforms (Stylesaint, Pinterest, Lookbook etc. – I can’t even remember the names on all platforms I’ve been on…).

From a young age, I was always very fascinated with computers and the internet. I remember when I was a kid and used to run over to our neighbor’s house (Brita & Christer), to play games on their computer (or to just watch Christer doing stuff on the computer, lol). Christer worked with computers and was “one of the cool guys” in the area because of that (as everyone who knew a bit about computers was at that time when they “boomed”). I can even remember the excitement the day that Christer got Windows 95 and I got to go there to “test it”, it was SO cool! I was such a computer nerd at age 6.

…and that’s the way it continued! We did however not get our own computer at home until I was 12, but oh do I remember that day! It was like a dream come true! No one else in my family knew anything about computers, so I got the honor to install it and teach everyone else how to use it. Getting our own computer at home was like a new world opening up to me, the endless things I could do! Let’s just say that I spent a LOT of time in front of the computer, and I loved it.

Fast forward to today

So… Now I’m 29 years old, living in Vasa and working as a freelancing marketing consultant with my own company. I’m obviously still obsessed with computers and the internet, still into all things visual… But one addition to my interests is… Traveling!

I had a very tough childhood (let’s not get into the details, but, it’s been hell) and I’ve therefore always dreamed of someday going away to see the world. And that’s what I’m currently and finally working on. I’ve traveled to 19 countries so far, and have my 20th coming soon (in March when I go to Bali) – and I am so happy to finally be able to fulfill my dream.

Traveling to me is the ultimate feeling of freedom. Going away to far away countries and seeing new things, meeting new people and simply understanding that there is so much more to this world than the place you’re currently living in – gives me such a great feeling of freedom, of being able to do whatever. And I am absolutely obsessed with that feeling. I really hope that I can continue to travel for as long as I live, as I really want to see as many places as possible and learn as much as possible about all of the beautiful places and cultures in this world.

The big post about my career

That’s it for now. I feel like this post is filled with a lot of random mambojambo, and I appologize for that. But I guess that this is me, I’m a person with a lot of interests and experience, a lot of mambojambo in my head – and apparently I have a big problem with putting it all into writing in a structured way. What can you do?

As by recommendation of Julia, I’ll continue the mambojambo about myself in another post, that’ll be dedicated to my career. Stay tuned!
