MY TRAVEL YEAR

My travel year

This year will be my greatest travel year so far in life. I really can’t believe that I’ve actually explored 7 new countries s far this year, and have my 8th and 9th still coming up… I feel so thankful for this! My dream as a little girl was always to “run away and see the world”. I’ve always been curious about the world. I’ve always wanted to know more about the different cultures, learn new languages, meet new people, see amazing places… So now when I finally get to do this – I’m beyond thankful.

9 new countries this year

Now you’re probably wondering which the 9 new countries this year are? Well, I started out with Estonia in the beginning of the year, when I went to Tallinn for a business trip. I didn’t get to explore Tallinn that much, which was a bummer, but I did get a pretty good look at it from above at the amazing hotel that I stayed at: Swissotel. I would really like to go back to Tallinn sometime soon, so that I could explore the old town. Everyone says it’s really beautiful there, but I’ve still got to go and see for myself… Hmm, next December perhaps?

The second country I got to explore was Spain, when I went to Alicante in May for my first solo trip. I spent 5 days in Alicante and stayed in a really amazing Airbnb-apartment. My host was so the best Airbnb-host I’ve ever had, and the apartment was HUGE… It had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Kind of unnecessary since I lived there alone – but, why not? It was cheap and I felt like a queen the entire 5 days there. Overall, Alicante was good – but I don’t think I’ll be going there again. I would however like to explore Spain more, especially Barcelona and the Canary islands (Tenerife and Fuerteventura especially).

My travel year

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth countries I got to explore this year were Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. They were explored while we were on a 9-day roadtrip this Summer! All of the four countries were amazing, but I especially fell in love with Italy, where we visited the Dolomites, Lake Como and Venice. Next time I go to Italy I want to go to Rome! After that Milan, Capri, Sicily, Portofino, the Amalfi coast… You get the point, I love Italy and can’t wait to explore more of that magnificent country!

My travel year

Country number 7 was Greece, which I got to explore a little when we went on a family trip to Crete in September this Fall! Crete was really beautiful and I loved being there. Next time I really want to go to Santorini or Mykonos – they seem really beautiful too! My favorite thing about Greece is for sure their moussaka – I LOVE moussaka, the vegetarian version. Ah, had such an amazing moussaka at one of the restaurants there one night… I should really try to cook a moussaka at home sometime!

My travel year

The 8th country I’m still going to visit this year, is of course the UK, which I wrote about a few days ago here. So, what about the 9th? Well, the 9th country is a paradise destination! It’s been a while since we went on a vacay where we actually relaxed and spent a little longer while there – and felt that Christmas and New years this year would be a great time for that! I searched and searched for cheap destinations all over the world (I especially looked at Bali, the Philippines and Thailand) – but everything was really pricey. I guess that’s what you get when you start looking for vacays 2 months ahead… Oops! But then I found our dream destination, at a cheap price: two weeks in the Maldives!!! Ah. I’m SO excited! It really feels like a dream come true to get to go and explore the Maldives! Can’t wait to tell you all about it! I can promise you that there will be a “Maldives on a budget” -post here int he beginning of 2019…

What about YOUR travel year?
